Suuuuure, we'll get fooled again

Meet the new boss - same as the old boss.

The Democrats gained control of Congress through angst over the war in Iraq, and over the Republicans' retarded, ridiculous, stupid, egregious fiscal policy. That's great! -- Except that the Democrats are exactly the same. What we need is a third party, one that's actually distinguishable from the others.

Check this out: Lawmakers doled out $15B to pet projects. Get that. FIFTEEN BILLION. That's staggering - even when you consider trillions as the measurement for the US budget.

Especially when the Congress was elected over the PREVIOUS Congress doing this sort of crap.

The problem is that if you were to put a Republican congressman and a Democratic congressman behind a screen and tried to tell which was which - like a Turing test - you'd be hard-pressed, unless you had some sort of specific constituency-related question. (Example: "Do people in your party represent the same black lobby as Jesse Jackson?") On pure policy alone, there's really no difference.

Being a Republican or a Democrat is merely political expediency. In Indiana, you'd want to be a Republican, generally; in New York, a Democrat. That's the real difference: geography.

I say we throw the bums out. Every one of them. Until there's a viable third party making the two parties actually pay attention to their own idealogy, we should vote for the challenger, in every race, regardless of platform or affiliation, if only to spur change - and if the challenger doesn't win, well, the incumbent will have to react eventually to the fact that he or she is being voted against.

Out with the scalawags, all of them.
