Poetry: Today’s Seconds (by someone else!)

A long, long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, someone wrote this poem to me, because I was unable to see (and largely unable to appreciate) what was around me at the time. Prophetic, really, because I’m still that way. I haven’t been in touch with the author for decades, and it ended up being published in a yearbook in her senior year of high school – and it deserved more.

Today’s Seconds

by Susanne Elizabeth Baxley

As you walk along the beach of life
Your impressions are left on the sand
The impressions depict times of pain and strife
As well as the times life was grand.

It is well to look back at the days gone by
But don't dwell on the past for too long.
For each second you turn to look back, and ask why?
A second of today will be gone.
